Elevating UHN Pharmacy’s annual report

Overview
UHN Pharmacy wanted to create a new annual report design that was more visually appealing and impactful. The 2026 Annual Report incorporates infographics KITE Studio created that summarize complex content in an easy-to-understand way, selected key images of the team's work, and helped craft compelling copy. Those were combined in a design that aligned with UHN's new brand guidelines and showcased the important work of UHN Pharmacy.
The Ask
UHN Pharmacy wanted to create a compelling visual storytelling experience for all audiences while adhering to the new UHN brand and including important information that was often scientific and complex. The 56-page annual report needed to include the organizational charts for four Pharmacy portfolios, operational statistics, the Strategic Action Plan, and portfolio highlights summarizing notable events and accomplishments.
Exploration
KITE Studio provided content editing and design advice for the UHN Pharmacy team using an iterative design approach; we started with the cover design to get a sense of direction from the client on what they want and go from there. We had provided at least three mockups before they settled on the final cover that primarily focused on care and the importance of TeamUHN, instead of showing pills or any imagery that showed pharmaceuticals.

For the inside content, we looked at how data and infographics were shown on the previous report and provided recommendations and guidance on how to show graphs, statistics, tables and charts with clarity and better visibility with consistent styles and layout. We established layouts that can be used for each of Pharmacy’s portfolio divisions – Director’s Message and organization chart, Statistics, and Highlights. Each portfolio had its own accent colour scheme and infographics had consistent graphical styles for better cohesion of the content.

Deliverables & Impact
UHN Pharmacy’s annual report was distributed as a perfect-bound book and as a digital PDF optimized for AODA accessibility. The high-impact, easy-to-understand report was distributed to 450+ team members and posted to the website for both internal and external readers.
UHN Pharmacy was impressed with the end result, noting that the clean design and modern visuals created a storytelling experience without compromising the amount or quality of information given to readers.
The report helped streamline internal communications, created a stronger understanding of Pharmacy’s scope across UHN, and served as a recruitment aid to attract pharmacy professionals to the team.
